KEA told to hold exams for medical edu dept posts
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a decision to ensure transparency in recruitment, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil on Wednesday directed that all Group A vacancies in the Department of Medical Education be filled through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) by conducting competitive examinations.
The minister instructed officials to immediately initiate steps to recruit 650 Assistant Professors under the Group A category and induct 1,200 nurses through KEA.
During a crucial with department officials at Vikasa Soudha, Dr Patil expressed dissatisfaction with the current recruitment process, which allowed individual institution heads to conduct recruitment amid allegations of corruption and nepotism.
He announced a series of measures aimed at regulating the recruitment process and filling vacant posts in the 33 government institutions under the department, including 22 medical colleges and 11 super speciality hospitals across the state.
This step aims to ensure transparency and competition in the recruitment process and check irregularities. Dr Patil stated that the department’s recruitment bylaws would be amended to enable KEA to conduct tests for the vacant posts.
The proposal to recruit nurses through KEA was sent by the government a couple of years ago. However, KEA had responded that it would be difficult to examine this in the absence of proper C&R rules and a roster system.
When informed of this development, Dr. Patil directed the DME and joint secretary to follow the C&R rules applicable to the recruitment of nurses under the Health & Family Welfare Department.
