Madhu Bangarappa addresses concerns over gov’t school closure in Bengaluru
NT Correspondent Bengaluru: Responding to concerns about the closure of government schools and colleges in Bengaluru, Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa cited several reasons, including low student enrollment, unavailable teachers, and poor infrastructure. While acknowledging the closures, Bangarappa emphasised that the government is taking proactive steps to improve the situation. "We are aware of the closures, but we have also started new schools in some areas and recruited more teachers.
We have launched government kindergarten schools, which have increased student intake," said Bangarappa. He highlighted that these initiatives aim to offer affordable education, from kindergarten to Class 12, especially benefiting economically disadvantaged families who otherwise resort to private institutions. Bangarappa also announced plans to establish 3,000 new schools across Karnataka. In rural areas, efforts are underway to consolidate different schools for different classes, improving access to education.
Additionally, awareness campaigns promoting government schools have been launched, resulting in increased enrollment. "The campaign has been successful in encouraging more students to join government schools," Bangarappa added, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening public education.
