Over 60 homes flooded, 100mm rainfall in few areas

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: Chief civic commissioner Tushar Girinath, shared further details about the deluge over the weekend and explained the process of obtaining a draft eKhata process on Monday. Over the weekend, the city received heavy rainfall, resulting in inundated roads and tree falls and floodings of few homes. Officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have actively been on the ground, but residents feel that could’ve been avoided if they were well prepared before the showers. “Hampi Nagar in South Zone received the highest rainfall in the city, recording 108.55 millimetre (mm) of rainfall across Saturday and Sunday.

It is followed by Nandini Layout and Yelahanka with 100mm rainfall,” he said, adding that Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli received around 65mm. Around 20 trees, and 40 branches have fallen, and most of them are cleared, Girinath claimed. When asked about the flooding in Kendriya Vihar Apartment in Yelahanka, Girinath insisted that it has always been vulnerable to heavy flooding because it is low lying and adjacent to the Storm Water Drain (SWD) connecting two major lakes. Over 60 homes in Mahalakshmi Layout of the West Zone were partially flooded, according to Girinath. “According to the rules of provisions, a minimum amount of Rs.10,000 will be granted. He further clarified to reporters on the uncertainty over obtaining an eKhata. “If citizens have any objections in their draft eKhatas, or don’t possess necessary documents, they can approach the Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO) nearby,” he ended.
