Two men arrested for Rs 10 cr digital fraud
NT Correspondent Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has arrested two men in Bengaluru for allegedly defrauding a Hyderabad resident of Rs 10.61 crore in a digital scam. The suspects, Vinay Kumar S Khadke (23) and GH Maruthi (28), are being transferred to Hyderabad for further investigation. The pair are linked to a bank account registered under the name Tinkan Technologies Pvt Ltd, which was used to facilitate the fraudulent transactions. Reports indicate that the victim was tricked into transferring Rs 4.62 crore into this account, set up on the advice of a third-party mastermind. The scam began when the victim received calls from individuals impersonating Mumbai police officials.
They falsely claimed that an account had been opened in his name using his personal information, including his Aadhaar and PAN card, and was involved in money laundering. To add credibility, the fraudsters forged letters from the Directorate of Enforcement and the Income Tax Department, demanding sensitive financial information. They intimidated the victim saying he would go to prison if he did not comply and coerced him into a series of video calls, maintaining a facade of ‘digital arrest’ to extract Rs 10.61 crore. Authorities are trying to uncover the larger network behind this.
