Bengaluru: In a shocking act, the headmistress of a government high school in Mandya district allegedly stripped a girl student and locked her inside a room as punishment for bringing her mobile phone to the school.
The headmistress has been placed under suspension pending an inquiry. Angry citizens of Mandya have demanded stern action against her. This incident occurred a week ago at the Government High School, Ganangur village in Srirangapatna taluk, but came to light only on Thursday. According to information available, the headmistress, Snehalatha, on coming to know that the eighth standard student had brought the phone to school, reached the classroom and asked all the boys to leave. After they left, she allegedly forced the girl to take off her clothes in front of the other students. She was not even allowed to leave during the lunch break and was beaten up, said sources. The sources also said the girl was made to sit on the floor without her clothes while the fan speed was increased. Her plea to reduce the speed or hand over her clothes went in vain. Finally, after an hour, she was given back the clothes and allowed to sit in the classroom.
The accused teacher has been suspended many times in the past on various charges. Parents of aggrieved students have demanded that the education department take stern action. A case has been registered against the headmistress under the POSCO Act.
