Bengaluru is set to host the 29th Annual General Meeting of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board on November 23- 24, 2024, at the Darul Uloom Sabeelur Rashad Campus on Tannery Road. Established in 1973, the AIMPLB serves as a unified platform representing all sects and schools of thought within the Indian Muslim community. For over 52 years, it has been dedicated to defending Islamic Shariah and promoting adherence to religious practices. The Board plays a critical role in representing Muslims on matters of Islamic law, advocating for the preservation of Muslim personal law, and opposing the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code in India. Significant issues addressed by the AIMPLB include the Shah Bano case, the Babri Masjid case, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, and the contentious Triple Talaq matter.
This year's meeting marks the third time Bengaluru has hosted the AGM, following previous meetings in 1975 and 2000. The current socio-political environment poses unprecedented challenges to Islamic laws and practices, making this gathering particularly significant. Eminent scholars, religious leaders, and intellectuals from across the nation are expected to participate.
Under the leadership of Ameer-e-Shariat Karnataka and Maulana Sagheer Ahmed Khan Rashadi, sessions will run from the morning of November 23 to the afternoon of November 24. A grand public meeting will also take place on November 24 evening at the Eidgah Quddoos Saheb, Millers Road, focusing on the theme "Protection of Shariah and Waqf." The public gathering will feature addresses from distinguished scholars and community leaders, concluding with the release of the 'Bangalore Declaration'. The event comes at a critical time as the protection of Waqf properties remains a pressing issue, with the AIMPLB advocating tirelessly for Waqf rights.
