BMRCL Green Line extension to BIEC opens after 5 years
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The long-awaited 3.14-kilometre extension of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Green Line, running from Nagasandra to Madavara, officially began commercial operations yesterday, November 7, 2024. This new stretch, which offers vital access to the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion along Tumkur Road and enhance connectivity for commuters.
The extension, completed under Phase 2 of the Metro project, features three new stations: Manjunathanagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara (BIEC). The extension is anticipated to cater to approximately 44,000 passengers daily. The first train departed from Madavara at 5 a.m., with the last one leaving at 11 p.m., maintaining a 10-minute headway on this section. The rest of the Green Line continues to operate on its regular schedule. According to passenger data from the first day of operations, the three new stations saw a total of 6,032 entries and 5,061 exits from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This promising start indicates a positive reception from the public and highlights the extension’s potential to ease the city’s transportation challenges.
