In an unexpected move, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials demolished several houses in Ashraya Nagar, near Goreguntepalya, early Thursday morning. Residents, some of whom had lived there for 3 to 4 decades, were shocked as the demolition allegedly occurred without prior notice. The operation began at dawn with a bulldozer clearing homes in the layout. BDA officials stated that the land was originally designated as BDA property, and earlier instructions had been given to vacate the premises. However, residents argue they were not provided with enough notice or assistance to find alternative accommodations as per reports.
As the bulldozer tore down the homes, household items were also removed, leaving many families not only homeless but without their belongings. For these long-term residents, this demolition has been a personal tragedy, as they now face an uncertain future. The incident has raised concerns about the fairness of such demolitions, particularly when long-time residents are affected. Residents of Ashraya Nagar have called for government intervention to ensure proper relocation and compensation. They expressed disbelief at the suddenness of the demolition, stating that they had not been given adequate time to vacate or find new homes for their families.
