Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) D.K. Shivakumar emphasised the importance of dreams, hard work and sacrifice as the keys to success on Thursday. In celebration of Children’s Day and in honour of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, D.K. Shivakumar hosted an interactive session with 160 children from government schools in Bengaluru, held at Vidhana Soudha.

The programme, organised in collaboration with BBMP and the Department of School Education and Literacy, was aimed at inspiring children through personal stories of dedication and achievement. Speaking to the children, he said, “Dreams alone aren’t enough. You must put in the effort, show dedication and work hard to make them a reality.” He reminded them of the irreplaceable role of parents and teachers, urging the children to hold onto these values regardless of future achievements. “Children are the nation’s greatest asset,” Shivakumar stated, expressing his hope for the students to one day serve the country in significant roles, including high-ranking officials and leaders.

He encouraged them to utilise technology to learn and adapt to today’s competitive world. The DCM also highlighted Nehru’s legacy, acknowledging his contributions to building a new India and establishing industries like HMT, BEL and BEML in Karnataka. He celebrated Karnataka’s progress in education, health and science, noting ISRO’s achievements from Bangalore as an inspiration. The Children’s Day event at Vidhana Soudha aimed to motivate young minds by fostering aspirations for leadership.
