A rent dispute between a paying guest owner and tenants escalated into a violent clash in BTM Layout, under the jurisdiction of the Sudaguntepalya police station. The incident, which occurred on the night of 10 December, involved a confrontation between the building owner’s relatives and PG residents. The building, leased by a Kerala native, houses students from various parts of Kerala. The issue stemmed from an ongoing civil case in the local court regarding rent between the landlord and the lessee.

On the night of the incident, two individuals claiming to be representatives of the owner demanded rent payment from the residents, leading to a heated argument. The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with both parties fighting in the street. A video of the brawl, which went viral on social media, prompted the police to register two separate complaints. The investigation is currently ongoing. The PG, located in a 12-room building previously owned by a former Deputy Mayor of Bengaluru, is home to several students. The altercation highlights the ongoing tension between the landlord and tenants, exacerbated by the legal dispute over the rent.

The situation escalated quickly as both parties exchanged harsh words, with the PG residents accusing the building owner’s relatives of trying to unlawfully collect rent. Witnesses to the altercation claim that the verbal confrontation turned physical when the building owner’s relatives allegedly attempted to force their way into the premises.
