Bengaluru: Without mincing words, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said action would be taken against all those who violate Covid rules without any differentiation.

Commenting on the filing of an FIR against 30 persons including former CMs Siddaramaiah and M.Veerappa Moily on charges of violating prohibitory orders which were clamped in Ramanagar on Sunday, the CM told the media that action would be initiated against everyone no matter how high and mighty they are. The government is concerned about the health of people participating in the Congress’ Mekedatu project. It is the duty of the health department to examine the condition of those who walk for a long time, he said adding the cooperation of paddayatris is needed for this.

Defending the dispatch of a few officers of the health department to collect the swab samples of KPCC President D.K.Shivakumar who is leading the padayatra, the CM said it was done out of concern and not to scuttle the stir on medical grounds.

Bommai also underscored the need to take preventive steps in the wake of a sudden rise in Corona positive cases in the State and said Karnataka recorded 12,000 cases on Sunday of which 9,000 cases were from Bengaluru City. The Case Positivity Rate (CPR) in the State is 6.8 percent but it is 10 per cent in Bengaluru City. Now, Karnataka stands third in the country in Corona positive cases. In view of this, there is a need for more stringent steps to check the spread of the epidemic, he added.
