MP Yaduveer asks farmer outfits to shun differences, unite to take nation forward
Mysuru, NT Bureau: Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadutta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Monday advised all farmers organizations to come under one platforum and stay united as such solidarity will help in securing their demands. He was speaking after inaugurating World Farmers Day celebrations organized by Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha at Town Hall in the city.
He highlighted the slew of pro-farmer welfare schemes taken up by the PM including distribution of Rs 6000 to over 11 crore farmers every year under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, subsidies for seeds and fertilizer, drip irrigation, insurance cover for crops, soil testing for improvement of soil fertility among other schemes.
The MP expressed his displeasure over the excessive use of chemical fertilizer for ginger cultivation in Mysuru and several other districts and the damage to soil fertility. He stressed the need to minimize use of chemicals and pesticides for such crops and suggested the use of neem and natural remedies. He recalled the contributions of former Prime Minister Choudhary Charan Singh in whose name National Farmers Day is being celebrated across the country. Various farmer leaders including Beerappa Deshanur and Ingalaguppe Krishnegowda criticized the absence of CM Siddaramaiah and his cabinet colleagues at the event.
