Bengaluru: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 128th birth anniversary was marked with zeal in Bengaluru on Thursday. The State government held an official programme in the Vidhana Soudha, which was attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy and others. “Subhash Chandra Bose, who wanted to free India from the yolk of British rule, was willing to sacrifice his life for the goal.

He was a patriot of distinction,” Siddaramaiah said. He made the comments after paying floral tributes to a portrait of the freedom fighter near the west gate of the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday. The CM pointed out that Bose believed it was difficult to get rid of colonial rule by way of a struggle of nonviolent, non-co-operation as advocated by Gandhi. “Therefore, he established the INA (Indian National Army) with the intention of overthrowing British rule in India through an armed struggle,” Siddaramaiah said.
