URWs to be deployed in each ward of the city: BBMP

Bengaluru: Urban Rehabilitation Workers (URW) in the city would soon be deployed in each ward of the eight zones of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). This was revealed after a meeting headed by Special Commissioner for Welfare, BBMP Suralkar Vikas Kishore on Wednesday. These workers will come under the aegis of the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens.

They are paid an honorarium, which is still considered inadequate as expenses have shot up thanks to the current economic conditions. Kishore instructed department officials to deploy these workers and conduct a survey of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) so that they can avail schemes announced by the Welfare Department of the BBMP. Officials have also been told to take in suggestions from these workers to expand the scope of the said welfare schemes for the year 2025-26.

The PwDs can visit the following website site.bbmp.gov.in/departmentwebsites/ welfare/welfareactivities. html and apply for schemes by Tuesday, February 4. Housing, financial incentives, daily utilities at subsidised rates and educational support are a few of the welfare schemes announced by the BBMP earlier. URWs are encouraged to avail the benefits.
