Bengaluru: At Least 90 percent of works in the underground section of the 21 kilometre long pink section of Namma Metro is done, according to Chief Engineer Subramanya Gudige in the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The Pink Line connects Gottigere in the South and Nagawara in the North via Jayadeva, Dairy Circle, Shivajinagar, and Bengaluru Cantonment. The line features the longest underground section, at 13.76 kilometres.
“The tunnelling works are fully complete. Civil works in few of the 12 underground stations are 95 per cent complete,” Gudige said. The elevated section of the Pink Line from Gottigere to Swagath Cross (Taverekere) via IIM Bengaluru, Jayadeva Hospital will be open first, and then the underground section. The BMRCL expects the line to be ready for commissioning by December this year. “The tracks, ventilation and the air conditioning and other electrical works are the only remaining works,” Gudige said.
The MG road underground section will have four entry and exit points, contrary to the other stations in the line (2, one in North and the other in the South) The station will connect the elevated station, Kaveri Emporium and North and South of Cubbon Road. “Those coming to and from Commercial Street need not cross the road to board the trains. The entrance will cut that out,” he further added.
