DKS: Disservice to B'luru if we don't plan for the future

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today said it would be a great disservice to Bengaluru if proper planning is not done for roads, pavements, and green zones. Speaking after inaugurating a workshop on road construction organized by the BBMP, he said, "Bengaluru can't be changed in two or three years. Even God can't do that.
It can only be transformed through proper planning and effective execution." "The handbook on roads released here provides guidelines on planting saplings, erecting poles, designing main roads and smaller roads, maintaining traffic discipline, and planning bus stands, among other aspects. We want uniformity and standardisation in public infrastructure," he said.
Removal of cables: "We have instructed the removal of all cables hanging in the open. BBMP has been directed to either lay them underground or cut them," he said. "We are also introducing new policies to protect people's assets. These will be announced in the last week of February." "We haven't been able to call for tenders for tunnel projects due to certain technical, financial, and acquisition issues." "The Constitution drafted by Ambedkar has shaped our lives.
Similarly, this handbook on roads will shape the future of Bengaluru. We have also received suggestions such as beautifying metro pillars with cultural symbols, and this has already been implemented in some areas," he added.
"It is encouraging to see students and young people coming forward with suggestions. They have volunteered to be part of the effort to shape Bengaluru’s future. Let us collectively take the city to new heights." When asked about Kannada disappearing from Bengaluru, he said, "Kannada has not disappeared. I was the one who proposed the 60:40 ratio for Kannada name boards."
