BBMP starts drive to uproot cobweb of OFCs from city

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has set its eye on pulling the horns of the unauthorised fibe cable bull by starting a removal drive on Monday. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath has issued a directive for the removal of all the overhead optical fibre cables from the city. Accordingly, officials are tasked with the removal of illegally installed cables along the roads within the ward boundaries of all eight city zones.
The assistant engineers (AEs) and junior engineers (JEs) of the wards will carry out the removal, while the assistant executive engineers (AEEs) have been designated to oversee the OFC removal drive. The unauthorised placement of cables on trees and utility poles within the zone limits, which are prominently visible above ground, detracts from the aesthetic appeal of the city. Once the illegally installed cables are removed, the installation teams must ensure that no unauthorised cables are reinstalled along the same routes and locations.
