Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara on Sunday reiterated that Tumakuru district’s name will not be changed under any circumstances. Speaking to reporters, he stressed that Karnataka’s art and culture are unique and would never be compromised. “Tumakuru will not be renamed as Bengaluru North, ” heasserted . While acknowledging the district’s rapid development, he added that efforts were underway to extend the Metro network to Tumakuru and attract more industries.
Clarifying an earlier remark, Dr. Parameshwara explained that when asked whether Tumakuru could be considered part of Bengaluru’s southern region, he had merely said, “It could happen,” but at no point had he suggested that the district’s name would be changed. “Tumakuru has its history and culture,” he said.
“The name of Tumakuru district will not be changed for any reason.” He further emphasised that his comments about Tumakuru possibly being included within Bengaluru’s administrative ambit were hypothetical and did not imply a name change. He maintained that, despite urban development and infrastructural expansion, the name of Tumakuru would remain the same, citing the district’s rich cultural heritage and its many distinguished personalities, such as writers Baraguru Ramachandrappa, Dodda Range Gowda, and Narahari Shastri.
