An anonymous bomb threat email sent on Sunday afternoon has triggered heightened security at four major airports in Karnataka – Hubballi, Belagavi, Mangaluru and Bengaluru.
The threat mail, sent from an ID named roadkill kyo, claimed that bombs would be detonated at these airports. Acting swiftly, airport authorities have stepped up security checks. Passengers and visitors entering airport premises are being subjected to strict frisking and luggage screening.
“After receiving the threat mail, we immediately held a meeting with bomb detection squads, internal security teams, dog squads, police, and intelligence officials. Comprehensive checks are underway.
Around 50–60 acres surrounding the Hubballi airport have been scanned,” said Hubballi Airport Director Rupeshkumar Shripad.
Specialised bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, and internal security personnel have been deployed around terminal buildings and parking areas. Entry and exit points are under tight watch. Airport officials have handed over the suspicious email details to the police, who have begun investigating the source of the threat. An FIR will be registered, authorities confirmed.
Passengers have been urged to cooperate with enhanced security checks. Flight operations, however, have continued without major disruptions, though some delays are reported due to intensified screening. Police and intelligence agencies are working to trace the sender and verify the credibility of the threat.
