Yellow Line will open by August, confirms Rao
Bengaluru: We’re very confident that operations will begin soon. I believe it will be up and running by August,” said Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BM- RCL), at the 48th Annual General Meeting of the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC).
“Things are moving very quickly now.” Rao confirmed BMRCL’s readiness to commission the long-awaited Yellow Line, acknowledging a slight delay from his initial four-month target after assuming office.
He emphasized the urgency with which the project is being accelerated. The Yellow Line is expected to significantly ease the commute for employees traveling to Bommasandra and help decongest the Silk Board junction—one of Bengaluru’s worst traffic bottlenecks. Rao also spoke about improving last-mile connectivity across the city.
“We’re exploring ways to improve access to metro stations, including a dedicated feeder bus service,” he said. “I look forward to your ideas on how we can make this work.” Citing the rise in metro ridership as a sign of growing public trust, he added, “On average, we’re seeing 8.5 lakh daily riders on weekdays—up from around six lakh just a few years ago.” He reiterated BMRCL’s commitment to expanding the network and enhancing urban mobility.
