Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a 45-day-old infant was allegedly drowned to death by his mother in a water vessel at their home in Vishweshwarapura, located on the outskirts of Nelamangala here.
The accused, identified as Radha, has been taken into custody by the Nelamangala Town Police. According to police sources, the child’s father, Pavan, works as an auto-rickshaw driver and is reportedly addicted to alcohol. The family was struggling financially, and investigators suspect that poverty and the pressure of childcare may have driven Radha to commit the horrifying act.
The incident came to light late at night after Radha allegedly pushed her infant son into a vessel filled with water. Upon receiving information, the police reached the spot, recovered the baby’s body, and detained Radha for questioning.
Local residents and neighbours expressed shock and sorrow over the brutal act. Initial investigations suggest that the couple had frequent arguments and unresolved domestic disputes, but the exact motive is still under investigation.
A case of murder has been registered. Authorities are also verifying whether the woman was suffering from postpartum depression or any psychological distress at the time of the incident.
