In a significant boost to commuter convenience, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has expanded its digital ticketing system, allowing passengers to buy metro QR tickets not only through WhatsApp and Paytm but also via nine additional popular digital platforms.
BMRCL announced that commuters can now purchase metro tickets through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), with integration across leading apps such as EaseMyTrip, Highway Delite, Miles & Kilometers via Telegram, Namma Yatri, OneTicket, Rapido, RedBus, Tummoc, and Yatri – City Travel Guide.
This expansion adds to the existing digital options including the Namma Metro mobile app, BMRCL’s WhatsApp chatbot (81055 56677), and Paytm, which already offer QR-based ticketing.
With over 8.5 lakh daily passengers, BMRCL stated that the initiative aims to make ticket booking more seamless, integrated, and hassle-free by connecting commuters to multiple platforms they already use for travel planning.
“This is a major step towards providing commuters a unified and app-based transport experience, covering the entire journey from the first mile to the last mile,” said M. Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of BMRCL.
He added that this extension of digital ticketing aligns with BMRCL’s long-term vision of integrating multi-modal urban transport through digital networks. “Since 2023, auto and taxi services have been available on the ONDC network. Adding metro ticketing strengthens this integrated ecosystem, allowing passengers to plan their complete journey – from their doorstep to their destination – using a single app. It saves time and effort for lakhs of people,” he explained.
With this development, Namma Metro becomes one of the first public transport services to adopt ONDC for ticketing.
