Future of Indian football? South United Football Club launches residential academy

The academy claims to offer world-class infrastructure and India’s first Optimized Performance Training (OPT) framework to develop young talent

Bengaluru: We are not just building great foot ballers, but great individuals," said Sharan Parikh, Director of South United Football Club (SUFC), as the club inaugurated its Residential Academy – Centre of Excellence on Thursday in Bengaluru.

The new facility aims to transform India’s football landscape by offering young players elite training, academic support, and holistic development. Catering to age groups U-13, U-15, and U-17, the academy provides a structured pathway to professional football.

“Like many children in India, I once had to step away from sports due to a lack of opportunities. With this academy, we want to change that narrative by giving aspiring players the platform they deserve,” Parikh added. The inauguration ceremony was graced by MLA Rizwan Arshad, alongside SUFC CEO Mohammed Rafik and Crimson Education Co CEO Husein Dohadwalla.

Equipped with FIFA-standard facilities, the acade my includes 11-a-side, 6-a side, and 3-a-side turfs, as well as floodlit pitches for evening training. Off the field, ath letes benefit from a fully equipped gym, physio therapy room, ice baths, steam rooms, and access to a swimming pool.

A sports nutritionist curated diet plan ensures players maintain peak performance, while medical tie-ups, first-aid stations, and 24/7 secu rity provide a safe, professional environment. At the heart of SUFC’s philosophy is Optimized Per formance Training (OPT), an advanced framework introduced in India for the first time.

OPT combines technical skills, tactical intelligence, physical conditioning, and mental resilience. Players undergo role-specific coaching, regular performance tracking, and receive support from sports psychologists and injury prevention specialists. The academy also focuses on inclusivity by scouting talent from across the country, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. Selected players receive comprehensive training, education, and nutrition.

The first cohort was chosen through trials in 16+ cities under the SUFCRA banner, reflecting SUFC’s commitment to nurturing nationwide talent. Education remains inte gral to the programme. Through a partnership with Winmore Academy, Jakkur, players will receive full scholarships and tai lored academic calendars designed to balance high performance training with academics.
