B'luru doc killing wife shocks all

Bengaluru: The medical fraternity in Bengaluru and across the nation is reeling after the shocking revelation that Dr Kruthika M Reddy, a 29-year-old accomplished doctor, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Dr Mahendra Reddy GS, a 31-year-old gastro surgeon at Victoria Hospital. Nearly six months after her tragic death, authorities have arrested Mahendra Reddy for the premeditated killing of his wife, sending waves of disbelief and sorrow through professional and public circles.

The discovery has stunned the medical community. “Dr Kruthika Reddy's murder is a heinous crime that cannot be justified. Any dispute between spouses should be resolved peacefully, and life is far too precious to be taken away. Generalising or stereotyping doctors based on this incident is in correct, as it is an isolated and inhumane act,” said Dr C N Manjunath, MP and former Director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh told News Trail, “It is a clear-cut case of murder by her husband. Based on evidence, the accused appears to have taken others’ help to execute this well-planned crime. The father of the victim has lodged a complaint against his son-in law, Dr Mahendra Reddy, alleging his involvement in Dr Kruthika’s murder.”

The incident has raised broader concerns about domestic violence, mental health, and the pressures faced by medical profes sionals. Popular social activist Brinda Adige emphasised the importance of witness testimony for a fair investigation. “The testimony of the medical team and other witnesses will be crucial in establishing the facts of the case.

Understand ing the motive behind the crime, such as a fragile male ego, could be key to building a strong prosecution,” she said. Reports indicate that after Dr Kruthika complained of gastric pain, her husband allegedly administered multiple injections of propofol, a powerful an aesthetic, over two days.

The overdose was report edly intended to mimic a natural death, a chilling act carried out using his medical expertise.
