Prakash RK: Turning everyday North Karnataka life into digital gold
Bengaluru
Prakash RK is a creative powerhouse, masterfully capturing the essence and humour of North Karnataka life for an audience of over 5.99 lakh Instagram followers. He has cemented his status as one of the region’s most beloved voices. Based in Vijayapura, this content creator has built a massive following by transforming everyday moments from local life into hilarious, heart-warming, and deeply relatable digital skits.
His signature use of the North Karnataka dialect, his trademark greeting, and his authentic portrayal of regional humour have made him a household name in Karnataka’s digital scene. But beyond the laughs, Prakash’s content is also a celebration of language, culture, and community. In an exclusive conversation with News Trail, he opened up about his journey, his creative process, and how he’s using his growing influence to give back to society.
Revival of an artistic passion
Prakash’s creative journey began long before social media fame. “I used to perform in plays and was very involved in theatre before I became a creator,” he recalled. Between 2013 and 2018, he actively participated in stage plays that often highlighted social issues, farmers’ struggles, and community challenges. When theatre activities in his hometown began to decline, Prakash refused to let go of his artistic passion. That’s when he turned to digital platforms.
“I always wanted to be an artist and wanted people to watch me perform,” he said. His first steps into the online world came in 2020, when he started uploading videos on YouTube and Facebook. The response was encouraging, prompting him to make Instagram his primary platform. “It was difficult to reach people on social media earlier as it was not as popular as it is today,” he explained. But his persistence and unique approach quickly found an audience.
How consistency built a community
Ask anyone familiar with his videos, and they’ll tell you two things define Prakash: his distinct Uttara Karnataka Kannada and his iconic sunglasses. “People recognise me by my dialect and my shades,” he laughed, noting how these simple yet consistent traits helped him build a niche. His content is grounded in real-life observations. “When I go outside, I observe everyone and everything and think whether it could be content material,” he shared. Every observation goes into his phone notes, later becoming a skit complete with punchlines and his trademark humour.
Even during the IPL season, Prakash entertains his audience with witty previews and reviews of matches, blending sports enthusiasm with regional flavour. Recalling his early days, he said, “I still remember how I used to record videos on the terrace of my home with a brick as a makeshift tripod.” Today, he owns a tripod, a microphone, and basic recording gear, but he insists that equipment is secondary. “People focus on the content first, so don’t keep obsessing over the materialistic part – your message matters more,” he advises aspiring creators.
Giving back to society
For Prakash, success also means responsibility. Inspired by the legendary Gadag Puttaraj Gawai, he founded an NGO named Gaana Yogi Sangha, a self-funded group of ten members working on social causes. “Puttaraj Gawai helped several children with disabilities get an education. Since I am an artist and have worshipped him for so long, I wanted to contribute something to society, keeping his values in mind,” he said. Prakash takes pride in how Karnataka’s diverse cultures are now gaining wider recognition. “The world is watching us – our talents, culture, and artists. It is indeed a proud moment!” he shared with a smile.
From dreams to billboards
While Prakash is known for his humility, his career has seen milestones worth celebrating. He credits his agency, Clout Pocket Aces, for guiding him through brand collaborations. “I always thought only celebrities, sportspersons and big influencers did advertisements,” he admitted.
His proudest moment came when his photo appeared on a billboard in Mumbai. “A year before that, I had seen a North Indian creator on a billboard and wished to be there someday. When my agency called and showed me my own hoarding, it felt like a dream come true,” he recalled.
Happiness is the real reward
As for what lies ahead, Prakash’s goals remain grounded in his passion and purpose. “I want to grow bigger and make more people happy,” he said. For him, success isn’t just about numbers; it’s about spreading joy and staying true to his roots. Grateful to his parents for their constant support, he added, “They have always believed in me, and I want to continue proving them right.” From a small-town theatre stage to the digital spotlight, Prakash RK’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and authenticity – proof that when passion meets purpose, even the simplest moments can become something extraordinary.
