Power packed Gowdas: Bhavani latest entrant
Bengaluru: It’s now almost certain that Bhavani Revanna, wife of former minister and Holenarasipur MLA H.D. Revanna will fight the MLC poll from Hassan local bodies constituency slated to be held on December 10 with the District JD(S) unit unanimously clearing her name as well as that of her son, Suraj Revanna.
However, Revanna is said to be not keen on sending his son Suraj to the Upper House and would like to field him from any constituency in Hassan district in the 2023 Assembly election. Bhavani’s victory if she contests is almost certain as JD(S) members are in a majority in almost all local bodies in the district. She was a member of Hassan ZP and her tenure ended in June this year.
On Saturday, Gowda had confirmed that there was pressure from party workers to field either Bhavani Revanna or Suraj Revanna, in the council polls. While Deve Gowda has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha, his sons, H.D.Revanna and H.D.Kumaraswamy, and his daughter-in-law Anitha Kumaraswamy, are MLAs and his grandson Prajwal Revanna is the Lok Sabha member from Hassan. Another grandson, Nikhil Kumaraswamy failed to make his debut from Mandya LS constituency after he lost to Sumalatha Ambareesh.
Not bothered Dismissing allegations of dynasty politics, Kumaraswamy gave the examples of BJP veterans B.S.Yediyurappa, late C.M.Udasi and Congress leader, Siddaramaiah whose sons have been MPs and MLAs. “What’s wrong in it...people want us so we are in politics. No one can question us about this.’’ Easy chance Hassan district local bodies have around 2,000 votes the majority of whom are JD(S) members. If she wins, Revanna’s residence will have a MLA, MP and MLC. under the same roof !
A formal announcement regarding Bhavani’s candidature is likely in the next couple of days, added sources.
