Parking chaos, debris dumping and poor waste management plague Adugodi
Bengaluru: Adugodi (Ward 147) is a prominent and well-connected neighbourhood in central Bengaluru, located along the crucial Hosur Road corridor. It functions as an important junction, sharing boundaries with several major and high-profile localities such as Koramangala, Richmond Town, Wilson Garden, and Jayanagar.
With excellent connectivity and proximity to premium areas like Koramangala, Adugodi is home to notable landmarks and lies close to leading medical institutions, including NIMHANS and St John’s Hospital. Supported by strong transport links and a robust commercial presence, with companies such as Bosch and Accenture operating in the area, its strategic positioning reinforces its significance as a residential, educational, and commercial hub.
Parking chaos chokes daily movement Mahalakshmi, a resident, described the daily challenges caused by two-wheelers parked along roads and footpaths. “These bikes and scooters are always parked here, and it becomes difficult for people to travel,” she said, noting how haphazard parking obstructs both vehicular and pedestrian movement. She added that many of the two wheelers parked in front of houses belong to residents who lack dedicated parking spaces, forcing them to leave their vehicles on the street.
Bhavana M During peak hours, especially in the mornings, school vans struggle to move, and the narrow roads become heavily congested. Even in the evenings, traffic remains dense, with some relief only late at night when vehicle numbers fall. With several roads narrow, such unorganised parking worsens the situation and poses risks to pedestrians, particularly children who often play outside.
“The BBMP is aware of the situation in this area, and we’re still waiting for them to take action,” said Lakshmi Narayan, a resident of 15 years, noting that authorities like the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) have inspected the issues but have yet to address them. Poor urban management Several parts of Adugodi are severely congested, with buildings constructed in extreme proximity, in violation of the GBA’s mandated spacing norms.
News Trail also observed multiple instances of construction debris dumped on roads and footpaths; on the main road, slabs of concrete were strewn across a pedestrian walkway. In addition, numerous cart vendors have encroached on footpaths and road ways, obstructing both pedestrian and commuter movement.
Irregular waste collection “The trucks used to come daily before, but now they come only once in two days to collect the waste,” said Ratnamma, a resident, highlighting irregular garbage collection in the area. This inconsistency has led to widespread dumping on streets and pavements, resulting in several visible blackspots, including along the main road.
Another concern raised was the growing stray dog menace, posing risks in a densely populated neighbourhood with many children and elderly residents.
