Hubballi
In a bid to tackle post-harvest losses faced by farmers, especially during the monsoon, Solgrov Agritech Solutions Pvt Ltd is introducing innovative drying solutions that help preserve crops, fruits, and vegetables. In this interview, co-founder Sandeep Amatigowdar speaks about the startup’s mission, technology, and its growing impact on rural livelihoods.
Can you tell us about your startup and the problem you are solving?
Our startup is called Solgrov Agritech Solutions Pvt Ltd. We focus on post-harvest management. Often, during the rainy season, farmers struggle to dry their crops, leading to significant losses. We provide drying solutions to address this issue.
What else can your technology dry besides crops?
Our technology can also dry vegetables and fruits. This is particularly useful when market prices drop. Farmers can dry their produce, store it, and sell it when prices are more favorable.
Do you offer any other services besides providing the dryers?
Yes, we don't just sell the dryers. We provide capacity-building training and facilitate market linkages on a need basis. We've also collaborated with organizations like SELCO Foundation to support various livelihood activities. For instance, we install dryers for people running vermicelli machines, oil presses, or dal processing units.
How many installations have you completed so far?
We have already completed about 10-12 installations, and another 4-5 are currently underway.
I see some carrots here. How do you process them?
When prices are low, carrots can be cut and dried. These dried carrots can be used directly in dishes like pulao and are highly sought after by the ready-to-eat industry. For example, the small carrot pieces you see in instant noodle seasonings are dried. We use a natural drying process without any chemicals.
Where is your startup incubated?
We are incubated at IIT Dharwad.
Who are the founders, and how long has the startup been active?
I am Sandeep Amatigowdar, the co-founder. The other co-founder, Mohan Bentoor, is based in Bangalore. We started the company about nine months ago.
Where are your operations located?
We have installed units for farmers in Davanagere (two units), Bailhongal (four to five units), Ranebennur (one unit), and Gadag two to three units).
