Family of three killed in road accident in Belagavi

Three members of a family, including a nine-month-old infant, have been killed in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a mini goods rickshaw in this district, police said on Tuesday. The accident occurred on Monday evening near the railway station road in Raibag taluk of Belagavi district, they said. The deceased were identified as Mahantesh Mane (27), his wife Payal Mane (23), and their nine-month-old son Samart Mane, residents of Bommanal village in Raibag taluk, police said.

The couple's daughter, Chaitanya, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, they added. According to police, Mahantesh was riding the motorcycle with his family when a mini goods rickshaw coming from the opposite direction allegedly collided head-on with the bike near Raibag Railway Station Road.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the motorcycle was completely mangled. Mahantesh, Payal and the infant died on the spot due to grievous injuries, police added. Personnel from the Raibag Police Station visited the accident site, conducted an inspection and shifted the bodies for postmortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, police said.
