IPL final tomorrow: How Bengaluru will watch the big match
Bengaluru
With the Royal Chal lengers Bengaluru (RCB) playing their second consecutive IPL final after winning their last, fans are hoping that they can do what only two IPL teams have done before and win back to back IPL seasons. The final will take place in Ahmedabad on Sunday at 7.30 pm. Last year, the victory released the pent-up emotions of fans, but it seems that this year, fans are more reluctant to head outside and would rather make it a friends and family occasion than a boisterous episode.
Syed Shahabuddin is only one of several dedicated supporters in his family. Therefore, the final is going to be a family affair. “My family is all gathering together– cousins, uncles, aunts. We’ll have everyone there and enjoy the match and have some good food. This way it becomes another family gathering,” Shahbuddin said.
This also works out for fans who are not as ardent or want to support their team in a more comfortable atmo sphere. Some, like Anushka, will be gathering with neigh bours in apartments which have arranged screenings. “They are screening the match in my apartment com plex. We’ll be ordering food and beverages and the works.
It’s more like a get together and for the neighbours to know each other,” Anushka said. While the pubs and bars will replicate the atmosphere of a stadium, such smaller get-togethers seem to be the usual experience for fans, especially along with their family. However, bar owners have also stated that the excitement for back-to-back wins is high and to witness this possibly historic moment, fans have been scrambling to arrange their own viewing spots.
Some of the most pop ular places for fans are match screenings at sports bars like Studs and Dave and Buster’s. Co-founder of the Studs franchise Miten Shah said, “The excitement is huge, we are already booked out ev erywhere. Generally what would happen is that friends would gather at someone’s residence and watch match es together.
But with bars like ours we have seven-eight screens spread across the place, everybody in an RCB jersey chanting in Kannada or English and there’s a whole stadium-like atmosphere that happens. So it’s a different experience than watching in any other place.” Indeed, almost every bar and restaurant in the city will screen the match if the premises has a screen, making it impossible for the uninterested to ignore.
