Police keep watch on motorists; 94 cases booked in Moodbidri
Mangaluru,
Motorists travelling across Dakshina Kannada are increasingly noticing traffic police personnel stationed at key locations as part of ongoing efforts to improve road discipline and ensure smoother traffic movement. Regular monitoring and enforcement activities continue across the district, with officials focusing on violations such as illegal parking, obstruction of traffic and other offences that contribute to congestion and safety concerns. The effectiveness of these efforts was evident in Moodbidri, where traffic police registered 94 illegal parking cases in the last 10 days.
The action was taken against vehicles parked in no-parking zones and at locations that obstructed the free movement of traffic and pedestrians. Traffic officials said illegal parking remains a persistent challenge in many towns across Dakshina Kannada. Vehicles parked along busy roads, near junctions, commercial establishments and market areas often reduce road space and create avoidable bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours. With vehicle numbers steadily increasing across the district, maintaining parking discipline has become an important aspect of traffic management.
Authorities note that even a few vehicles parked in discriminately can significantly disrupt traffic flow on narrow roads and busy stretches. In Moodbidri, police have been carrying out routine inspections and monitoring traffic movement at various locations. The 94 cases booked over the past 10 days underline the need for motorists to follow parking regulations and make use of designated parking spaces wherever available. Residents and commuters have frequently raised concerns about vehicles being parked on road margins, near intersections and in other restricted areas.
Such practices not only inconvenience other road users but also pose risks to pedestrians and emergency vehicles. Officials emphasised that the objective of enforcement is to ensure smoother traffic movement and create awareness among motorists about responsible road usage. Traffic personnel continue to educate vehicle owners on parking norms while taking action against violations when ever noticed.
Road safety experts point out that better compliance with parking regulations can go a long way in reducing congestion in urban and semi-urban centres. Responsible parking, adherence to traffic rules and cooperation with enforcement authorities are essential for maintaining orderly and safer roads.
50% discount on fines
Motorists across Karnataka have been given an opportunity to clear pending traffic violation cases at reduced rates. The Karnataka government has announced a 50 per cent discount on eligible pending traffic fines from June 21 to July 10, 2026. The concession allows vehicle owners to settle outstanding challans by paying only half of the prescribed penalty amount during the specified period. Authorities believe the initiative will help motorists clear long-pending dues while improving compliance with traffic regulations.
Officials have urged vehicle owners to verify whether any traffic challans are pending against their vehicles and make use of the concession before the deadline. After July 10, regular penalty rates will apply. Traffic police have advised citizens to check their pending fines through official traffic enforcement platforms and complete payments within the stipulated period.
The scheme is expected to benefit a large number of motorists across the state while helping authorities clear a substantial backlog of pending cases. As traffic police continue their routine monitoring across Dakshina Kannada, officials hope that greater public awareness, better parking discipline and timely settlement of pending fines will contribute to safer and more efficient roads throughout the district.
