Mysuru: After BJP MLA S.A. Ramdas wrote to the Mysuru city corporation commissioner not to approve the project to supply LPG in pipelines to households in the Heritage City, another BJP MLA of Mysuru, Mr L Nagendra has opposed the project, which is being supported by Mysuru Kodagu MP Mr Pratap Simha.
Speaking to media persons, Mr Nagendra said, “our roads are newly asphalted. So we cannot afford to dig our roads again to lay 500 km of gas pipelines. If the damage caused is worth Rs 300 Crore and if the government gives Rs 99 Crore to compensate for it, how will it suffice?,” he asked.
Mr Pratap Simha had said that it was when Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat that he implemented the project to supply LPG to households in pipelines. Later when he became Prime Minister he decided to extend the project to the entire nation. The Karnataka government came up with the scheme in 2020 and it has already passed an order in this regard. Mysuru city corporation just needs to give the formal approval.
Mr Simha had said that it is planned to lay 103km of gas pipelines from Bidadi to Columbia Asia junction in Mysuru, and a 29km long pipeline on Mysuru ring road. Two 56kl tanks are being built at Hebbal in Mysuru. From there, 500km of pipelines will be laid.
Mr Simha had also said the project is being taken up in Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad and other places in the state too.
