33 times in jail! Thief for the record books

Bengaluru: If there was a slot in the record books for those who have landed in jail the most number of times, this thief would definitely be a candidate for it! During his 30 years in the ‘theft’ profession , Irfan Sherrief, 56, has been in and out of jail 33 times. During every visit to the jail, he would succeed in getting a new partner-in-crime who would then become his accomplice in future thefts.

Irfan’s latest associate is Mohammed Bilal Hussain, 32. The Puttenahalli police who arrested the duo, recovered gold and other valuables worth `35.12 lakh from them. Sherrief has committed thefts in Tumakuru too. He was earlier selling phenyl and toilet cleaning acid in Peenya 2nd stage. His wife and children deserted him after he became a thief.
