Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has assured that repair and restoration of pothole riddled Bengaluru roads will be taken up on a war footing and he would personally monitor the works once the current wet spell stops.
After participating in the Bengaluru Tech Summit, he told media that intermittent rains in the city and other districts due to the depression in Bay of Bengal have left its trail of damage on Bengaluru roads. “I have already held a meeting in this regard and issued necessary instructions for road repairs,” he added.
The chief minister said works will be taken up for comprehensive repair and improvement of roads in the state capital immediately after the rains. Orders had been issued to utilise NDRF teams for relief works in low lying areas, where roads, houses and properties have been damaged.
Four special teams of State Disaster Management Teams(SDRF) would be constituted for the purpose in Bengaluru, he added. On the confusion regarding who should take up the road repairs – contractors or the BBMP, Bommai said BBMP had been instructed to take up the works immediately, if the contractors concerned fail to take it up. They should later deduct the costs from the contractors.
He also stated that the government had approved Rs 280 crore for taking up underground drainage works in 110 villages, which were recently added to BBMP limits.
