Shut schools, colleges till peace returns: DK
Shyam Sundar Vattam| NT
Leaders across political parties have urged the state government to declare a holiday for all schools and colleges across the State for the next one week in the wake of incidents of violence in three districts in which a few persons sustained injuries.
KPCC President D.K.Shivakumar said Tuesday was the saddest day in his four decade long political career after he saw a few students hoisting the saffron shawl on the flag post in front of a college. “I have high regards for saffron colour and it is one of the colours in our Tricolor. But whatever happened in that college is really unfortunate. The whole world is watching the happenings in India in general and Karnataka in particular. The top brains from this State have occupied the highest places in institutions of international repute. At this juncture, I am not going to say anything about the forces behind this row but I will only appeal to CM Bommai to shut all schools and colleges for the next week till tempers calm down. The verdict of the Karnataka High Court on the hijab row is expected in a day or two and it is binding on all of us. This is not the time to make allegations but to maintain peace and tranquility. No one must sow the seeds of hate in the minds of children”.
