CC Patil inspects flyover in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: As the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) allowed light motor vehicles on the Goraguntepalya flyover, Karnataka Minister for Public Works Department, CC Patil visited the place on Thursday. Inspecting the elevated flyover, the minister said that the NHAI had taken up the repair works after which a load testing was conducted.

“As it was decided to open the flyover for the movement of LMVs, heavy vehicles can’t use the flyover for now. Even the IISc has done the third party evaluation. We need to conduct a detailed audit and root cause analysis of the issue,” he said. The bridge was constructed 12 years ago.

Since then, many flyovers have been constructed across Bengaluru. After the news of sub-standard material usage in the construction of Goraguntepalya Flyover, the citizens are now worried about the safety of other flyovers in the city.

Experts are of the view that it is time to inspect all the flyovers including the metro pillars in the city. Meanwhile, the opening of the flyover, at least for LMVs has brought a sigh of relief to the commuters and Peenya traffic police.
