Provide enclosure to remove hijab: Govt

NT Correspondent

The Department of Primary & Secondary Education has directed all schools and colleges to provide a separate enclosure for girl students who come to schools/colleges with the hijab so that they can take it off and attend classes.

In a press release here on Tuesday, S.N. Padmini, government under secretary, Primary & Secondary Department (Pre-University) said this must be done as per the interim order of the High Court of Karnataka which reads “... we request the state government and all other stakeholders to reopen educational institutions and allow students to return to classes at the earliest. Pending consideration of all these petitions, we restrain all students regardless of their religion or faith from wearing saffron shawls (Bhagwa), scarfs, hijab, religious flags or the like within the classroom until further orders. We make it clear that this order is confined to such institutions where the College Development Committees have prescribed the student dress code/uniform”.
