Lawyers plan protest rally

A group of advocates and social activists have decided to take out procession to police commissioner’s office on Friday demanding ‘justice’ for lawyer Jagadish Mahadev, who is in judicial custody for allegedly creating a ruckus on a court premises recently. The procession will begin from Dr BR Ambedkar statue in front of Vidhana Soudha.
It may be recalled that Halasuru Gate Police have registered a case against advocate Jagadish for allegedly creating ruckus on the court premises on February 12. Jagadish had gone to the court to submit documents pertaining to an alleged land grabbing case in which IPS officer Ravi D Chennanavar is the accused.
“I am not supporting advocate Jagadish’s irresponsible statements against police and advocates, but I want the Police Commissioner to probe corruption charges against police officers. I appeal to all social activists and advocates, including Advocates Association Bengaluru (AAB) president Vivek Reddy, to join the protest on Friday,” said A.P. Ranganath, former president of AAB.
Many pro-Kannada leaders, including Gurudev Narayankumar, demanded the authorities concerned to release advocate Jagadish from prison and take action against corrupt police officers. “Is it a crime to raise voice against corruption? I think the police have misused their power by registering a case against advocate Jagadish for making allegations against an IPS officer,” said Gurudev Narayankumar.
The Kannada activists have also demanded the authorities to punish those people responsible for violence on the City Civil Court premises. An advocate has blamed Advocates Association of Bengaluru president for complaining to the Police Commissioner against advocate.
