Nominated Bangalore University Syndicate Members on Monday alleged that Vice-Chancellor Prof K R Venugopal and Registrar Prof Kotreesh have violated norms of Karnataka State University Act 2000 by conducting a special meeting.

They also alleged that Bangalore University authorities misguided Group D employees by giving an impression that Nominated Syndicate Members have refused to approve the promotions from Group D to Group C. “The office bearers of non-teaching staff association entered the board room and started abusing the nominated syndicate members with un-parliamentary words. Further, they also locked the doors of the board room for four hours and instructed their counterparts not to give either drinking water or food to the Nominated Syndicate Members,” said Prem Sohanlal Jain, one of the Nominated Syndicate Members.

At a press meet here on Monday, Nominated Syndicate Members alleged that Bangalore University authorities had instigated the non-teaching staff to go against them.

“Peaceful environment at the university was disturbed because of manipulation by the authorities. Later, we submitted a memorandum to the Governor and other a u t h o r i t i e s seeking disciplinary action against those responsible for the chaos at the meeting, but no action has been initiated, even after 18 days,” said Dr Sudhakar, a Nominated Syndicate Member.

He said that Vice-Chancellor has called a special meeting of the Syndicate on February 18 and the regular Syndicate meeting on February 19, but all the seven nominated members had requested him not to hold the special meeting on February 18 and the items of agenda to be placed in the special meeting to be taken up in the regular Syndicate meeting which was held next day.

“The Vice-Chancellor holds the special meeting on February 18 and sought the approval of ex-officio members for all the items of the agenda, which were considered to be very important and have a great impact on the administration of the university, which is a serious lapse on the part of the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar,” said Dr Sudhakar.

He said the Vice-Chancellor has sought the members’ approval for 104 items on the agenda through a circular without convening a meeting.
