A manhole has been overflowing near the Cantonment Railway station in Bengaluru causing a stagnant pool of filthy water collected under the Vasanth Nagar subway.

Thousands of commuters in the city using the underpass near cantonment railway station are wading through the sewage water gushing out from one of the manholes connected to the Railway Station. The regular users complain that the underpass has been inundated for more than a week now, while the commuters blamed the authorities for turning blind eye to the problem.

“It is difficult to drive through the dirty water accumulated here. Pedestrians, bike riders and cyclists face major inconvenience,” said Raja, an auto rickshaw driver.

“This is one of the important roads in the city. I wonder how come authorities are not aware of the issue?” Abdul, a commuter added.

The stench emanating from the sewage water was unbearable and it could be felt as far as the Cantonment Railway Station. When enquired about the issue, station master K Vijay and other officials present there had no clue, but assured that the issue will be resolved immediately.
