Perv held for sending obscene messages to women police officers, lawyers

A 37-year-old sexual predator who was sending ‘obscene’ messages and porn contents to over 100 women, including women advocates and police officers, has been arrested by the West division police.

The accused, Divya Raj, hails from Madugiri in Tumakuru and has eight aliases. The police have been on his trail for the last six months and he had even challenged them to catch him. He was finally arrested by the Kamakshipalya police.

He used to send obscene clips to the mobile numbers of the victims. After the police recovered his mobile phone, they found that he was harassing the women either by making calls or sending obscene messages or clippings to their WhatsApp numbers. The jurisdictional DCP has urged the victims to come forward and file a complaint.

The other aliases of Divya Raj are - Krishna, Ramakrishna, Manjunath, Chool Manja, Psycho Manja, Prashanth and Praveen. The accused is a bachelor and told police that he used to get thrilled by harassing women. He also alleged that he was having a physical relationship with some of the victims.

There are around six complaints against him in Upparpet police station. There are complaints against him in City Market, City Railway, Vidyaranyapura and Halasuru Gate police stations. There are two complaints each at the Jalahalli and the Tumakuru women police stations. Overall there are over 14 cases against him.

“The modus operandi of the accused was to collect telephone numbers of women advocates under the pretext of applying for bail for his friend. Similarly he would call the police stations and was obtaining contact details of women police officials under the pretext of helping a woman to file a complaint. After managing to obtain the numbers, he would harass them. He was also abusing the victims in filthy language. Since the last six months, the Tumakuru and the Halasuru Gate police have been trying to catch him by forming separate teams,” said a police officer. He would also call the investigators and challenge them to catch him.

The accused used to target such women who were refusing to concede to his demands. He is said to have confessed more details during the interrogation. He was also threatening the victims and blackmailing them.
