Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai termed his predecessor BS Yediyurappa as the “modern Bhagirath”, who filled up tanks from farflung reservoirs and helped in rejuvenation of the underground water level in Shikaripur taluk of Shivamogga district.

Speaking at the function Raithhabhimana Abhihandane organised in Shikaripur in connection with the birthday of Yediyurappa on Saturday, the CM said the commitment of his government was to fulfil his aspirations like social and regional equality and to make Karnataka as the most rich state in the country. The state will progress only if every section of the society is given an equal opportunity. The process of filling up 250 tanks in ten villages has started and this will help farmers grow enough crops to sustain their livelihood. To achieve this, the government required the guidance and assistance of the “modern Bhagaritha”, he said.

Terming Yediyurappa as a visionary, Bommai said his predecessor gave a lot of programmes like bicycles for girl students, Sandhya Suraksha, Bhagyalakshmi bonds and Mythri that have “changed the lives of women”

“The kind of sensitivity that every leader must have can be seen in Yediyurappa. He did farmers a lot of welfare. I became the CM with his blessings ,” added Bommai.
