The daughter of the Tamil Nadu minister who had earlier knocked the doors of the Bengaluru police commissioner along with her husband seeking protection from her father approached Home Minister Araga Jnanendra on Wednesday. Jaya Kalyani, 24, daughter of Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Tamil Nadu, PK Sekar Babu, married Satish Kumar, 27, in a mutt at Hoovinahadagali in Vijayanagar district of Karnataka. The two are said to be in love since the last six years. Kalyani had gone missing from Chennai since September 2021, after which a complaint was filed in the neighbouring state. Using his influence, the minister is said to have traced them to Pune. He is then said to have taken his daughter back home.

Kalyani is an MBBS graduate, while Kumar is a diploma holder and businessman in his hometown, Chennai.

The newlyweds met the home minister at his office and sought police protection. Kalyani, who introduced herself as an MBBS graduate, informed him that she married Kumar, with mutual consent. Expressing apprehension about their safety, she told the home minister that false cases are being levelled against her husband by the Tamil Nadu police and hence, they are facing a threat to their lives.

The home minister after blessing the two spoke to Police Commissioner Kamal Pant about the matter. The minister assured them protection and advised them to meet Pant.

It may be recalled that the couple met Kamal Pant in his office on Monday. As there was reportedly no development, they met the home minister on Wednesday afternoon.

Kalynai had earlier told the police that she may not get help from the Tamil Nadu police due to her father’s political influence, so she was requesting the Bengaluru police commissioner to provide protection.
