A fire broke out in the Sukh Sagar hotel at Gandhi Nagar in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

According to eye-witnesses, the incident came to light around 2.45 pm when a cop informed the hotel staff about smoke emanating from the sixth floor of their building.

It was later revealed that a Sub-Inspector Ravi from the Upparpet Police Station was on his way to Freedom Park when he noticed a column of smoke rising out of the building and immediately alerted the hotel and emergency services.

Due to swift action by fire tenders and police officials from the police station, the fire was brought under control quickly, which otherwise may have caused a major damage.

“As soon as they were informed, our staff was evacuated from the building,” a source from the hotel said. He also said that some unused furniture including sofas were stored in the top floor of the building.

The police suspect that a short circuit in the electrical wiring may have caused the fire. A faulty water heater on the top floor of the building is the prime suspect.

The fire soon turned into a blazing inferno, while emitting thick black smoke even as two fire engines rushed to the spot. It took three hours for the officials to extinguish the fire, the source added.

Adjacent buildings were also evacuated as a safety measure.
