A 21-year-old dental student was killed after his twowheeler was hit by a private towing vehicle from behind in the Yeshwanthapura traffic police limits. The incident happened on Thursday night at around 8.30 pm near the Gymkhana Gate on the CV Raman Road from Maramma Circle.

After the bike was hit, the victim and the pillion rider fell on the road. The victim sustained severe head injuries and was shifted to a nearby private hospital, where he reportedly died while undergoing treatment.

The traffic police have identified the deceased as Mohammed Matheen, a second year dental student. Matheen, a resident of Yeshwanthapura, had gone out with his female friend on Thursday evening. The accident happened while they were returning home.

The pillion rider sustained minor injuries and is out of danger. It is alleged that the rider was not wearing a helmet, because of which he sustained severe head injury.

The traffic police have taken the driver of the private towing vehicle into custody. The body has been handed over to the parents after the post-mortem at MS Ramaiah Hospital.

“Matheen along with his students was also actively involved in social service. He is said to have been helping many needy people by forming his own trust,” said Suhaid Khan, one of the close friends of the victim, while sharing details with the police.

Yeshwanthapura traffic police have registered a case and are further investigating.
