The black and yellow spots were an eyesore for the residents on Haines Road and motorists, who use this road to reach Shivajinagar and other areas from Tannery Road, Pottery Town, Benson Town and Millers Road.
These spots were so widespread that it took around 30 volunteers and residents around 10 hours to beautify them on Saturday. “I happened to clean these spots a few months ago but in vain. I have contacted an NGO – Let’s be the change – for beautifying these spots. The volunteers have not only beautified the black and yellow spots, but also fixed the footpath that was in a dilapidated condition,” said Habiba Subhan, a social activist.
She said that traffic police and the BBMP health department also pitched in by removing debris, garbage and stationed or abandoned vehicles from the footpath.
The volunteers, who gathered at the spot at 8.30 am on Saturday, completed the beautification task by 4.30 pm. The residents on Haines Road are very happy with the makeover. “I have to thank Habiba Subhan. The volunteers are very sincere. They have worked very hard to beautify these black spots. I hope there will be no black spots on this road in future,” said Sheila Shivakumar, a resident.
After identifying the black and yellow spots, the volunteers sought the help of BBMP pourakarmikas to remove garbage and debris on the footpath. “We have ensured the place is free from garbage and debris on the previous day itself. Later, we painted the wall and beautified the black and yellow spots,” said a volunteer.
Thanking the volunteers for beautifying the black and yellow spots, Abdul Raqeeb Ahmed, a resident, said that he was very happy to see the place neat and clean. “I have to thank the volunteers for their commendable contribution to keep the place clean,” he said.
The residents have thanked the BMBP authorities, especially pourakarmikas for associating with the volunteers for beautifying the black and the yellow spots.
