Breaching the security at M Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday to take a selfie with Virat Kohli has landed four youth, including two minors, behind bars.

The four reportedly trespassed into the play area at the stadium during a medical-break in the play. The incident happened around 9.20 pm during the second day of the Pink Ball Test match between India and Sri Lanka.

Though Kohli was kind enough to pose for the selfies, this did not go well with the police, who were deployed to ensure security of the stadium. The police had a tough time in apprehending the four as they started running helter-skelter inside the stadium.

“All the four have been apprehended and removed from the stadium. A criminal case has been registered against them at the Cubbon Park police station,” said M.N. Anucheth, DCP (Central).

They are students studying in different colleges. Two of them are residents of Cox Town, while the other two hail from Kalaburagi.

The two minors have been handed over to the Children Home for Boys, while the others two were remanded to judicial custody after a medical examination. All the four have been booked for criminal trespass (IPC 447), negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life (IPC 269) disobedience to quarantine rule (IPC 271) and prohibition of contravention or obstruction of public servant section 5(1) of The Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Ant of 2020.

The Cubbon Park police have registered a case and are further investigating.

Kohli had earlier captained the Indian cricket team in all the three formats, and continues to be part of the Indian squad. He had also captained the Bengaluru based IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore till last year and has a great fan following in the city.

The Sri Lankan tour of India comprises three T20 and two test matches and Bengaluru was the venue for the second test match.
