Oranges and Lemons
NT Features
Orange is associated with joy, warmth, sunshine, enthusiasm…The enumerating can go on. So why not use it in your homes and capture the thrill of the shade. Used in large quantities, orange can get overwhelming. But softer peachy or terra cotta shades can be cosy and calming. Its companion colours -- rust and burnt orange – too can give all the high without the overwrought effect of a pure orange.
A shade that can be both contemporary and rustic, orange has a reputation for being a difficult color to decorate with, but that needn’t be the case. An uplifting, cheery colour, use this hue that should be used in home decor whenever possible. It emanates warmth to the decor and can be paired with softer shades to create drama.
What do pair orange with? Orange goes well with both black or white, but it looks especially nice when coupled with grey. How about an orange sofa with grey throw cushions. Grey is a cool colour that’s closer to purple and blue – orange’s complementary colours – than it is to white or black. As a combination with red and yellow, orange creates a harmony as the qualities possessed by these colours are different.
Wooden pieces that have an orangish toned stain will be a good add. An occasional chair with orange upholstery will do the trick. An orange living room will always be considered warm and inviting.
