Centre plans alternative courses for Ukraine returnees

The Union government is seriously considering making alternative arrangements for Indian students who were pursuing medical courses in Ukraine but were forced to return because of the war between Russia and Ukraine, for their further studies, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Speaking to reporters before leaving for Davangere to participate in the last rites of Naveen Shekarappa Gyangoudar who died in the missile attack in Ukraine three weeks ago, he said the courses in Ukraine are totally different. Since the students who pursued the medical courses belong to various states, the government of India is considering making alternative arrangements so that their studies do not stop abruptly.

Bommai said though the government fees is very less, the rush for private medical seats has resulted in a hike in fees. Students, who have scored 90-95 per cent are not able to clear NEET and get admission and therefore they look for alternative means. To reduce the medical fees in Karnataka, a discussion is going on and the National Medical Board will decide on the medical courses and the process, he added.
