In order to help citizens file a police complaint in an easier, faster and convenient way, Karnataka state police department will soon be implementing an online complaint management system to report cases such as house break-in theft, lost and found and theft.
Currently the official website of Karnataka police has an option to register e-complaints regarding theft of purse, ATM card and mobile phones. But there is no provision to track the status of those complaints.
“ N o b o d y wants to visit a police stat i o n , bu t i n some cases, it is a necessity,” Hari Shankar D, a resident of Kal a s i p a l y a , t o l d News Trail. “If you are the victim of a criminal offence or if you happen to see it taking place, it is your right and duty to file a complaint on the basis of which the police can start their investigations,” he said.
In addition, in sync with the motto of e-governance and transparency, this new system is being readied. According to Bengaluru police, the portal will enable citizens to file complaints a n d t r a c k their status from the comfort of their homes.
“Without visiting the jurisdictional police station and waiting for long hours, people can register their complaint through this portal,” an official from Chandra Layout police station said.
According to sources, the new system has already been implemented by the police departments in a few states, including Telangana and Delhi. Karnataka State Police (KSP) will have a similar interface, police said.
Meanwhile, the KSP website is being linked to the Central and State Transport Department’s Sarathi web portal for vehicle theft.
“People need to enter the chassis and registration certificate (RC) number with a complaint of vehicle theft. It will help us extract details of the vehicle from the Sarathi web portal,” the police added.
